My firm gave me a flat stipend ($17,250) covering both living cost and the cost for a bar exam review course.
As to your hypothetical, the difference may be $250 or less! I would not worry about that amount of money.

My firm paid for Barbri, paid for moving costs, paid $10,000, and offered a loan of up to $10,000 (against 1st year salary).

I think that they understood your question, and both firms did it differently for the above posters. The first poster got a flat sum, and the second (it sounds like) got reimbursed for the course. This is probably entirely dependent on your firm, so why don't you ask them?

Ah yeah sorry I missed the first response somehow. (The second one just said they “paid for” it, but I wanted to know what exactly "paid for" means.) I am kind of in a weird situation that isn’t relevant to this conversation, but as a result I cannot ask my post-graduation employer about this, so I was just wondering what the norm is.
barbri will typically bill the firm directly. i doubt you will pocket any savings. but given the above apparently some firms do it differently.

Fwiw I just paid the $250 to lock in the fee. Most big law firms will give you moving fees and bar prep funds. So you will save the $1k in costs.

Another vote for it depends. Some firms just give you $x to pay for everything yourself. Some pay barbri directly. I think NYC firms generally, maybe overwhelmingly, do the second.
