Thoughts?

They'll be slotting me in to that specific practice group.

I haven't interviewed with Cleary yet, but I'm operating on the assumption that I won't get it for the time being.

More information that seems to be relevant based off of the responses so far:
- Don't really care about going in house
- I want to be able to do both merger review and lit
- I don't care about information that I can generally find online
- I more care about: firm culture, hours, what the partners are like, why people have left, thoughts on its relatively rapid growth. Obviously I'm asking (some) of these questions to people at the firm.

That is the biggest practice group in Wilson's DC office. Many attorneys in that group had prior experience working for the federal government. If you want to work on antitrust matters, Wilson is one of the better choices in D.C. since you will most likely work on many M&A related antitrust matters.

One concern would be your exit strategy if you were pigeonholed in antitrust. Associates only working on antitrust matters may have limited their in-house positions to mega-companies only, such as Google, Microsoft, Pfizer, etc. If you can jump to those corporations, great! If not, it is pretty hard to find other employment opportunities as an antitrust attorney.

Is that a ding against Wilson, or a ding against being an antitrust attorney? I'm much, much more concerned with the former, and have no desire to go in house.

Neither. Just my own analysis for the general audience.

Up or out partnership track. But up is not guaranteed for anyone.

Wilson is Band 2 in Chambers both nationally and in DC. I don't know a ton about their practice specifically, but the clients listed on their profile are less likely to hire in-house antitrust lawyers than those represented by some other firms (although that isn't necessarily an indicator anyway). If you want to build a career as an antitrust lawyer though it seems like a reasonably good firm.

It is not uncommon for a senior antitrust associate from Wilson to join Google. But those who do not receive offers from Google may have a hard time to find other in-house positions.
