1 year in @ BIGLAW - Not sure what to think.

I just completed my first year at a biglaw firm and am at a loss as to what to do/think. My entire first year has been brutal. I have low hours, there is little work for me to do, my main source of work (partner who was assigned to be my main source) is always gone/doing other things. I have reached out to various practice groups in an attempt to get hours/work with mild success. My hours I do have consist from a variety of litigation etc. projects that I horn in on after annoying a senior associate enough for them to throw me a bone.

How screwed am I/what is the best move at this point? I seem to be secure until my next review in early 2016. Do I start planning my exit strategies now? With only 1 year of experience I feel that I am pretty fucked.

start embellishing what youve done on things and beef up the resume to try and get something. you should be able to land somewhere though if you apply broadly.

You should start looking for a new job now.

Is your firm/practice group generally busy? If so and you don't have work, it may be time to figure out why. Just switching without knowing why your first year has been brutal might mean you could end up in the same position at a new firm/job.
