This has been discussed on here before, but I didn't want to necro old threads.

What are the main differences between SullCrom and Skadden? I hear that they both ride people hard, but that Skadden may be more broey (whatever that means). I pretty much got the same vibe from both firms during CBs.

*Yes, I have read that long post about SullCrom many times and in many different threads. If you feel the need to copy+paste it here go ahead, but I'm more interested in useful info from people who might know more about the differences of these firms.

Seems like the best way to choose would be deciding between downtown and midtown

Have you narrowed it down to these two? I rarely see these two firms compared, because, really, their cultures couldn't be much more divergent. Skadden is huge (both in NYC and elsewhere), tends to attract very social associates and has a reputation for being fratty. S&C, on the other hand, hires almost strictly based on grades, and their "culture" probably reflects that. I would love to hear an S&C partner try and answer what they look for in a candidate, because I doubt there is really anything they look for other than good grades.

Both great firms, so I think it would be more useful if you knew what you wanted to do, but even then I suspect it would be a toss-up, because they're mostly good at the same things.

If midtown vs. downtown makes no difference to you, then just ask where your friends/people you like at school are going and follow them.

What were u looking for specifically that you didn't see in the old threads? As mentioned above, indistinguishable quality of work, exit opportunities and hours. I think these two have pretty different cultures/personalities. I was at one of these firms so can't really speak for both but apart from relying on generalizations, think about how u reacted to each (u said similar vibe and that's fair but u gotta decide which one vibed with u more perhaps). 2 rotations at Skadden vs more generalist at S&C. Midtown vs downtown. International/other cities.

I would prefer to start at SullCrom, but that also fit my vibe better than Skadden. And I think this can totally come down to vibe.

If you don't understand the concept of liking humans, go to S&C.

I posted above but it would also help if you knew what you were interested in at least generally - if you're in interested in practices like M&A, securities lit, etc, then they're both very good at those (leaving things like location, fit as deciding factors). But if u had interest in tax, u should consider Skadden, for example. Hard to give more specific advice without knowing ur preferences.
