Davis Polk NY versus Paul Weiss NY for litigation, any thoughts?

Do you want to do securities litigation or other stuff?

Both are great. Top of the game for NY lit. Paul Weiss is slightly more litigation focused, whereas Davis Polk's corporate groups are larger, but it won't impact the reputation of your practice as a junior. Paul Weiss is apparently a more brutal place to start in litigation (it "churns through junior litigators" at a higher rate), but your hours will be rough either way. As the poster above alluded, Davis Polk's lit department is dominated by white collar and securities, whereas Paul Weiss will have more diverse groups, but they both have strengths across the board. If you really really hate securities lit or bank clients, then you should probably stay away from DPW, though.

Is one more highly regarded than the other in NY, and will one have better exit opportunities?

I've heard these rumors, but everyone I know there is really happy. Am I talking to the wrong people, and what does it mean that it churns through juniors? If the hours are the same, how is it a more grueling place than DPW or places like Cravath and S&C?

Based on people I know at both, I think PW is probably a little more brutal, but you might be more likely to get real responsibility early. That's not necessarily a good thing for everyone. That and culture are probably what should guide.
