I don't think this thread already exists. What are the best firms in SD?

DLA Piper has a big SD office. Shepard Mullin has a Del Mar (not exactly San Diego to be fair).

Not a big market at all, especially when it comes to summer programs. Large percentage of the work is IP stuff.

I'm going through this right now. Seems like you have Sheppard Mullin/DLA Piper/Latham/Cooley as "top" options for non-IP work, and maybe MoFo and Paul Hastings hiring one non-IP associate every now and then. There are a bunch of IP biglaw branch offices though. Jones Day/Wilson Sonsini/Fish/Knobbe etc. are all there.

Just to be clear, Sheppard Mullin's "Del Mar" office is definitely in San Diego and is right by many other big firms' San Diego offices (e.g. Latham, MoFo, etc.). I think the only reason they call it the Del Mar office is because they are one of the very few big firms that also have a downtown San Diego office. But in San Diego most big offices for any sort of job are up north in that Sorrento Valley/Carmel Valley/Del Mar area, rather than downtown.

Other than that this thread already nailed it. BigLaw outposts like Sheppard/DLA Piper (with its downtown office being lit/IP and its "Golden Triangle" office being corporate)/Latham/Cooley are going to be your best bet for non-IP work. Paul Hastings also does a good amount of corporate work but is a pretty small office. Otherwise you're looking at a lot of IP-focused offices.

Trying to decide a few of these firms and wondering if anyone has any other anecdotal info.
