Thank you notes after NYC callbacks

Quick question - are thank-you notes necessary after NYC callbacks? I know in D.C. I am expected to send thank-you notes but it does not do good but will hurt me if I don't do well. I heard mixed messages about NYC. Would it hurt me if I don't send one after a NYC callback? Thanks!

You do not have to send thank you notes after callbacks at NYC big law firms.
Source: worked at one, been part of the annual TLS debate on this subject for the past several decades, etc.

it is a frequently debated topic with zero consensus.
if you write them be sure there are no typos or errors

There is consensus amongst people who who have actually interviewed candidates and participated in hiring decisions, but I'll grant you there's no consensus amongst the squawking hordes of law students.

I sent one to the head of legal recruiting and to any partners I interviewed with. None to associates because they dgaf. I had a
Good callback to offer batting average but doubt this drastically
Helped. I would send them to boomer partners at the least and not to younger associates

Waste of time. The decision has been made before the note gets there even if you email within an hour.

After much contemplation I decided to send thank you emails to my CB interviewers. I received responses, so far, from two of them (1 partner, 1 senior associate). Both expressed that it was a pleasure to meet me/they enjoyed our conversation and both ended by wishing me the best of luck. Thoughts? No offer?

This. Interviewers tend to write up their reports immediately afterward. Decisions are often made the same day.

That's why I never say thank you in checkout lanes or like if someone holds the door. Already got what I want.

Is this true (that the decision is made the same day) even for pre-OCI callbacks? Two callbacks I've had said they would get back to me in about a week (both communicated from the recruiter, one before the interviews happened, one just after completion).

Decision time is different than when the reviews are submitted. I got a same-day email from a girl I had done a CB with, but I submitted my review of her right after she moved on to her next interviewer.
