How hard for NY 1st year biglaw to get back to CA?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Aug 02, 2015 9:18 pm

I'm a first year (will have one year in September) in litigation at an Amlaw200 firm. I'm originally from California and want to get back as soon as possible, I chose the NY market because of the better legal market/low grades. My stats are CCN '14 bottom 1/3, 2 years w/e prior in big4 audit, have my California CPA license.

I spoke with a recruiter who was telling me it won't be easy, which I expected. She said I need to take the February CA bar for firms to really look at me. I am absolutely slammed at work and don't really see how I can fit it in, is it fair to say that firms won't really consider me until I am CA licensed, and if so how hard is fitting it in while working biglaw hours?

Any advice offered is appreciated, I know it's an uphill battle to say the least but is it possible? Will smaller firms give me a look? I would prefer the bay area but am open to anywhere in CA really.

Thanks!

Does your current firm have any CA offices?

That is probably your best bet.
