We have bidding/preselection at our OCI. How many interviews are normal? I got 11 at T20... is that good or bad?

That's probably bad. How many bids did you make? For ~40-50 I think the goal is to get 17-20 or more

I also go to a T20 and I've gotten a total of: wait for it.... 4 firms. Bid on 75-100 through various on campus programs.

well, it's certainly not good. Start mass mailing your ass off.

Wait really? I know T6 can expect 20+, but it seems like that's an average number for a T20. Have you checked your previous year's class thread?

I would mass mail if I were you probably. Got 20+ screeners at T6 and even I am going to mass mail because my grades are not that great. Not sure what the normal # of screeners at t20 is tho.

Preselect.

I got 8 through a fair at a T20 (bid 11), and waiting on OCI (bid 11 as well). So I definitely won't have 20 screeners. Also not really mass mailing b/c all the firms I'm interested in are coming to the fair/OCI. I am only targeting one market though
ETA: school does only preselect

With preselect, at least you know that the firms you got already consider you a viable candidate. Particularly if these interviews are from a consortium or fair with multiple schools, where the firm has selected you out of an extremely large pool. Lottery selection could put you in a situation where 15/20 firms throw your resume in the trash as soon as you leave the room. Focus on really learning about the firms that selected you, and show them you want to work for them. Maybe you'll get an extra screener or two from MM, but it's the quality of your interview that matters, not the quantity of them

would you rather be unemployed than work elsewhere?

Yeah, I imagine that CB to Screener ratio will be higher with a hybrid system that's more preselect than lottery. Then again, OP hasn't given his/her grades so he may have gotten a lot of these from the lottery side. I'd check with your class' previous OCI megathread to see what people ordinarily get.

UT does 70/30 so I assume that's where OP is. You need to mass mail, OP.

11 screeners from pre-select seems pretty solid. Obviously mass mail still.

11 screeners from pre-select isn't bad. I got 13 and ended up with 4 CBs and 2 offers. But I had friends that had 20+ and struck out. So mass mail is tcr

I had 23 screeners, 1 CB, and 0 offers at a low T14. There is no comfortable number, there is only "keep hustling until you have a job."

GULC does 70/30 (lottery/pre-select) and the max we're allowed is 18. Pretty sure the minimum is 6, but I dunno where I heard that and can't verify at the moment. The thing I hate about this system is that we bust hump to make a sweet resume that's appealing to employers, but if somehow we do too good a job, we run the (unlikely) risk of filling up slots with lower-ranked preselects and missing out on the lottery slots we really want. In theory I could interview with the bottom 18 firms I bid on, and none of my top 20. The fact that I'm not top 10% makes me fairly confident that won't happen, but what the hell do I know. OCS doesn't even seem to understand how this crap plays out.
Safe to say I would prefer more than 18 screeners and a less chaotic system, but I knew what I was getting into when I signed aboard the good ship Hoya.

I had 20 (the max) allowed at my TT. I also had 6 from another job fair, I'd definitely be massmailing too if I were you
