Mass Mailing: Online Application, Email Recruiting Coordinator, or Email Alumni Partner?

I was looking through the Mass mail guide on here and it seemed like most people were talking about emailing partners, etc. For a lot of the firms I'm looking at now, in their summer associate section on website it either says to email the recruiting coordinator with information or it gives you a link to fill out an online application, attaching resume/cover/transcript etc.
Which is preferable? Following the online portal thing, emailing the recruiter, or sending it to a partner who went to my school? Obviously if the application got sent to recruiting by a partner it would have more weight, but I don't just want to fire off a random email (since it is going to be about ~60-70 mass mails, I won't have time to talk/connect with all of them beforehand) to a partner who is no doubt busy and forwading resumes is not part of his job.
Is it acceptable then to just do the online portal applications when you don't have time to connect with the partner beforehand? or send things to recruiting coordinators?
Thanks for any advice
