Re: NY GOES TO 180k! IT HAPPENED!!!! (CovingTTTon to 160?!?)
So does a 180k NYC now beat a 130k ATL or other smaller markets? Pretty sure 130 in ATL would go further than 160 in NYC after taxes and living expenses, but does 180 start to tip it back to NYC if you are looking at having the same life style and paying off student loans as fast as possible? I don't really know how much the taxes up there eat away at your pay after fed, state, and city take their bite.

130k in Atlanta is probably more like $250k in NYC.

Not a lot of choices for decent markets if you want to be around family in the South. Outside of Texas anyway, if you count them as south.First Offense wrote:Downside: You have to live in Atlanta.Anonymous User wrote:130k in Atlanta is probably more like $250k in NYC.

The firm is probably waiting out the storm to see how far it has spread. They probably want to see how many firms do across the board raises. I'm guessing it was quite thrilled to hear of covingtttons move, but it looks like that's an outlier.imalreadyamember? wrote:Anybody got speculation on Cadwalader? It's astonishing that Covingttton thinks it can dictate the market anywhere. Their PPP is significantly lower than pretty much every other major firm except AP, and they have really no significant international presence. For a national firm to have that low of a PPP shows that they aren't actually elite. They might hire like an elite firm, but that will clearly come to an end if they don't raise. Covington's new feeder school will be UDC. Sad!Anonymous User wrote:The firm is probably waiting out the storm to see how far it has spread. also servicing loans. I don't know why its so consistently overlooked. the CoL difference between ATL and NYC is not $50k pre-tax. In NY you're paying ~$1k more in rent per month and maybe $500 more per month on other indices, assuming a comparable standard of living, but you don't have car payments, insurance, or parking. One could generously assume it costs $18,000 more to live in NY per year. That still leaves you with $15,000-20,000 more to put towards student loans on the $180k in NY than the $130k in ATL, even if ATL bro can maintain the same or superior lifestyle on the lower salary.First Offense wrote:Downside: You have to live in Atlanta.Anonymous User wrote:130k in Atlanta is probably more like $250k in NYC.

See that's what I was kinda getting at in regards to paying off loans. I just don't know the difference in take home pay and costs between ATL and NYC bro. If ATL stays static I could see myself staying in NYC a few years to pay off more loans if it worked out that way.jbagelboy wrote: also servicing loans. I think youre confusing white and case with the far less prestigious Jones DayAnonymous User wrote:But wait. At the SA meeting last summer they told me all about how being "one firm worldwide (tm) (not based in NY guys!)" has made them so elite and strong and constantly moving up Amlaw... That means they're just figuring out how to raise to $190 in all offices (ONE firm worldwide, amirite) before they announce?Anonymous User wrote:Radio silence at White & Case.... or should I say, WhiTTTe & Case.
