Would you trust your work/case with someone who doesn't look like he/she can be trusted to take care of him/herself?

You're answering a different question than the one the OP is asking.

My b. Interpreted it as whether or not personal hygiene and dressing well mattered to interviewers who would hire you for work.

I'd say yes. It's a benefit.

I thought the women in the DC office were pretty good looking, but I guess everyone has different taste/standards.

not nearly as much as people on TLS think, and for some attractive women I think it hurts

For women, attractive can help you, but sexy will 100% hurt you.

Op is definitely ugly. Attractive people don't bother themselves with these sort of issues.

i read an article sometime back that mentioned how physically fit men will most likely get the job over an average to overweight man. it sounds realistic but im not 100 on the legitimacy.
the first firm i worked for had a stupid amount of super attractive women. im talking model status, easily, for the majority. then they hired on some new HR chick who was a real advocate for equality and such and the level of hot new hires dramatically decreased

This right here is a prime example of the pussification of America.

Yes. But only if you are (i) really ugly, (ii) really attractive, or (iii) really unkept/have no personal hygiene.
Assuming you don't fall into one of these camps, I don't think they really matter.

I understand the thread is more about physicality, but I think this is actually a pretty important issue. I interview people (callbacks) at my V15 in New York regularly, and I have seen people at the top of their classes out of T6 schools fail to secure jobs because they made some very basic, amateurish mistakes in their suiting. (Ties showing from under the collar, collars folded down too far, sleeves too long, pants too long) Things that just should not be happening by the time you get to a callback. Remember, you are interviewing to be revenue drivers in a client-service industry... the firm HAS to know it can put you in front of a client, a judge, a jury!
Get your suiting straight, LONG before the interviews, get good clothes, good shoes, wear them in, don't screw up something very very basic that's entirely within your control.
Oh, i've also seen super gorgeous, extremely well dressed people at my T6 strike out because they were bad interviewers/had low grades. So no, doesn't make up for bad numbers/skills at all.

Yeh I doubt this is true at all but OK if you say so. The only time appearance trumps top grades from top school is if it's a reflection on mental stability. The examples you mentioned are so minor it shouldn't matter.
