  • Are most IP litigation associates specialized, in that they only handle some type of IP litigation (e.g., trademark, patent, copyright, etc.)?
  • How much are technical backgrounds actually required for patent lit, and how much are they something that firms like to select for but aren't really needed for the job?

My firm had a ton of stealth layoffs in IP lit last year, but this year, things seen to be holding steady so far. What's your impression of the market for ip lawyers?

Is clerking overhyped for patent lit?

What do you think about the trend in many patent heavy dockets for experienced clerks (clerking after a few years as an associate)?
