mass mail before journal results?

I am a 1L at UIUC. Finished top 1/3 of my class (3.46), so I am a borderline candidate for big firms. I am planning to do OCI, which is obviously Chicago heavy, but am also planning to mass mail Houston and Dallas, as I have strong ties there as well. The problem is that we do not find out about journal results until late July. I think it is possible that I'll make law review, as I had A's in Legal writing and advocacy, but obviously won't know until July.
Should I go ahead and start mass mailing firms in Texas in a few weeks (or sooner) and let them know that journal results are pending? Or should I just wait until late july/early august?
Thanks!

Top 33% without law review may not get much serious consideration at the top law firms; therefore, I recommend waiting.

That is what I suspected. I just hate to wait until the end of July. Thanks for weighing in.

being at uiuc, ur in a unique position. if u truly believe u have at least a 51% chance of law review, id wait because it will likely make u more attractive. if u think less than 50%, just apply now and tell employer in cover letter that ur waiting on journal results. i doubt secondary journal will raise any eyebrows.

Do you mind elaborating on what makes my position unique? I'm assuming you mean b/c of UIUC's relatively strong presence in Chicago.
Thanks for your input.
