So true. Still waiting on one too. I have 0 clue where to even start on a bid list. I should probably figure that out somewhat soon haha.

I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Anyone know when we might hear back about what journal we are on? Also wondering if jounrals would influence bidding strategies.

There are a total of 7 grades going into OCI. Just average your grades if you are over 3.2 and under 3.3 you are roughly median.

Am i reading the bid % wrong or is this spreadsheet just messed up??

If a firm has a bid success of 10% and they interview 60 people, doesn't that suggest there were 600 bids? What am i doing wrong here?

Yeah that doesn't sound right. Unless they interviewed far fewer than 60 people in previous years.

How serious are firms about these grade stipulations? Seeing a lot of mediocre firms throwing out top 15% like it's candy.

Ignore that completely. Look at the actual grade breakdown for Penn students bidding last year.

Would it be silly to do a grade survey? There is a lot of speculation buzzing around, but no hard data. We need a large enough sample so the data won’t be much help until a lot of people add to the survey ... but could be useful, no?

Is there a way to ensure that only current Penn students can see/post? I’d hate to undermine the school’s efforts to keep our number as opaque as possible given that this certainly works in our favor.

You find out about journals near the end of July, about a week and a half before OCI.

To some extent those numbers (the pie charts) will be inflated as well. First, the charts reflect the last three years. Firms seem to be casting a wider and wider net over the last three years. This probably doesn't inflate the numbers by much though. Second, the chart reflects offers, not acceptances. Thus, the grades of people who were offered/accepted at the most selective firms are represented. This probably causes a lot of inflation (especially around the lower ranks).

I took a brief look at the ABA numbers since 2010 to try to get an idea of just how successful Penn is at Biglaw (or 101+) insertion. Here are the results. Please know that I am aware that this is not completely indicative of OCI success (people get jobs outside OCI), but it is nonetheless very informative (I think).

I am looking for feedback. I realize that subtracting clerks/academics/PIs from the class size is subjective. I figure these people are capable of getting Biglaw but do not bother with the exception of some state court clerks who represent a small fraction of our clerkships (see the ABA clerk numbers for the last five years). Adjusting for the handful of state clerks wouldn't change the numbers all that much. For example, it would change the 84% (immediately above) to roughly 82% assuming 10% of clerks can't get Biglaw jobs.

Thoughts?

No reason to take out government, clerks or PI people at all. Even the business jobs can probably be added in too.
