You must be really average to be every firms back burner...
I didn't phrase that right. I meant you must be right in the middle of who the firms want and who they don't to not have heard till now. Didn't intend to be rude!
That's no better. OP, I would talk to CP&P maybe?

In other news, anyone heard back either way from Baker Hostetler DC? I'm still waiting on all my DC firms.

I wonder if Reed Smith is just not giving any Penn CBs this year too. Haven't heard anything since the screener.

^Re: Reed Smith- I'm not at Penn, but another Philly school that places well enough in the market--you can guess which ones I'm talking about, I'm sure. Reed Smith seemed to be pretty generous with callbacks for us (I know personally of 6), and they came within a day via phone. (Also- not my intention to thread-hijack. Just thought it might be helpful context.)

DLA has given out callbacks more than a week ago (but their CB schedule is a bit later)

^ I'd just check the Nyc offers thread or find/start other regional offer threads for that.

to 3Ls and alumni: how understanding are professors about missing class to take a second look at a firm? it would be less time-consuming and i'd probably be able to make a quicker decision if i could schedule second looks at Firm A and Firm B on, say, thursday and friday, respectively, rather than on two separate fridays (especially since some of my offers are going to expire within a few weeks). thanks for your help!

I would never, ever, ever choose class over scheduling a callback earlier.

Don't care about how "understanding" a professor is. It's your career. No individual class session for an entire course is ever worth it.

I believe this person is talking about scheduling "second looks" though. Presumably, they already have both offers in hand.

Changes the nexus a little bit but I'd still not give a shit about class.

If there are STILL firms we haven't heard from since the OCI screeners despite follow up emails is that a rejection at this point? Any advice from 3Ls?

It's not a 100% thing, but yeah, stop reading tea leaves, etc.

How many of us are still waiting for offers (or even callbacks)? I only had one callback and I have not heard back from it yet, despite having solidly above-median grades and good interviewing skills. Am I alone? I've sent out a lot of independent applications (>35) and I plan to send out more, but do people actually get jobs from them in September and October?

No, definitely not. I received some CBs for NY firms in late September, including the one I ultimately went to. As a general matter, I would say by the end of first week or so of October, if you haven't heard about callbacks, it is 99% likely not going to happen (for NY and probably any other major market).

Obviously it's also firm dependent, and some firms will give out all their CBs in August, while others do CBs in batches and wait to see who they want to give offers to (and potentially until seeing who accepts the offers) to decide whether another batch of CBs is necessary. My firm waited all the way until they saw who accepted offers before giving out new CBs, then my CB happened, and I got my offer within a week. But, this is really trying to read the tea leaves and depends on so many variables, it's not worth trying to figure out.

Of course, secondary markets can take longer, with callbacks often stretching into October. For instance, Miami firms were still giving out CBs in early October last year.

Blue Ruin is on point. Would just add that for NYC most of the bigger firms move fast.

How heavily did you bid NYC? One CB with your profile sounds low in NYC unless you are missing something. If you haven't gone hard in NYC then know is the time.

And Pennbull is right about missing class. Missing class, even for a second look is the right call if you want to take the second look. The firm you chose will very likely be the one you practice at for the first few years of your career and maybe longer. Choosing between firms with subtle, but sometimes important, differences with respect to practice group rotations or non-rotations/personality types/practice area strengths/management strategy is worth missing a class for.

I had about 20 screeners in NYC through OCI. All of my independent apps (around 35-40) have been to NYC. I have no idea what's going on and I'm rapidly losing hope.

How many callbacks did you go on? I know it's deflating, but it's still early enough to make moves. Apply everywhere you possibly can, consider other markets if you have ties etc. Basically do anything except give up, keep your head up!

callbacks/second looks/offer dinner should take precedence over class.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
