Others, like G. Troy Pickett, 44, of Houston, who worked as a bartender in Austin before going back to school with the intent of becoming a big-firm mergers and acquisitions lawyer, opted to set up their own practices.
“I began to realize that I had set the bar too high, but I kept thinking that if I could get my foot in the door, I could do it,” he said of his decision to attend South Texas College of Law in Houston.

So this Columbia grad clerked for a year and then became an LSAT tutor? Makes you wonder about the 9-month employment statistics...

Nah; makes me wonder about what kind of porn he looked at in the judge's chambers to get blackballed. There's a lot missing from the Columbia kid's story.
As for the South Texas grad: whodathunk a legal employer wouldn't want a mid-40s lawyer who is apparently barely literate?

What are we looking for here? It seems like he did everything right and couldn't find a real job with some impressive credentials.

Oh, I wasn't trying to make any sort of point with that. I just found myself curious when reading the article about things like, which judge? where did he SA? etc.

The crazy thing is to think about how much better he would be if he just hadn't gone to law school and simply done the tutoring business. The article says he's making $100 and hour and it sounds like it's basically his business. He could have been on his way to building an awesome company without having to answer to anyone with NO student loan debt at only 29 (really younger because he would have simply done it right after he took the LSAT with no 3 years wasted in school).
Also note how this happened at one of "CCN". Honestly, this stuff is nowhere NEAR as uncommon as this website likes to make it seem. But what people on here don't get is that this site is very self selecting. Very few people who struggle or end up unemployed are going to seek out a site like this and post (I mean honestly, why the hell would they? It literally does nothing for them and it's embarrassing). Whereas the guy who "barely studied" and got a top 1/3 rank at NYU and landed an offer from Davis Polk just by showing up to OCI with a pulse is going to post all day and all night and talk about how "everyone he knows" landed a big firm job "if they wanted it" and "tried at all on exams".
