Biglaw offer - possible to move to smaller market?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:57 pm

With an offer from a firm after 2L, can you relocate to a satellite/smaller office within the same geographic region (<30 mi). Wondering if this is ever done/is even possible? Or do you typically have to stay at the office where you summered?

It depends on the need of the firm. I know people who have gone clear across the country between offices in their firm, so a move from main office to satellite is not unthinkable. However, the firm staffs each office based on the anticipated needs there - if the satellite office has SAs and there're already a crop coming in, then you might be out of luck. Most of the push-back from firms I've seen is moving from satellite to a larger office (or from NYC to DC satellite, for some reason).
