Follow-Up after 1L SA interview?

Hey everyone,
I'm in kind of a tough spot and would really appreciate some advice.
I have an offer for a paid position (~10/hr) which is solid and I'm pumped to have it, but it expires tomorrow (I've already gotten it extended once). The problem is that I just interviewed with a midlaw firm in my home/school city for a SA. The work is exactly what I want to do, and the pay is great and would let me take out fewer COL loans next year.
The question: 1) The guy I interviewed with told me that I'd hear back in the 2nd week of March. Is it appropriate to follow-up now and let him know about this deadline? 2) Is it a reasonable risk to take to decline the first offer and hold out for this one?
For what it's worth, the interview went really well IMO, and I'm around top 5% after the first semester. Worst case scenario I end up with neither, is hard to find something solid this late in the game?
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate any help
