Federal Judicial Internship

I recently phone interviewed for a federal judicial internship. I think it went well. The judge told me to expect a quick decision. I wanted to know how long I should expect to wait for an answer? Do most federal judges offer you a position on the spot after the interview or is that not the case? Just don't know what to expect.

I waited a little less than a week. I also gave the judge my writing sample during the interview, so they needed time to review that.

Everyone's mileage will vary so no one can tell you anything that is going to scratch your itch. I had two such internships (dist and cir ct) and was offered immediately for dist ct (phone interviewed with clerk actually), and for cir ct was told it could be a week (interviewed with clerk there too), then they called me an hour later and offered. So who knows. Good luck.

Depends on the judge. I interned at a district court and the judge offered it to me during the interview. However, I also interned at a court of appeals and I got the offer a week later. Both internships required an interview with the clerks and then the judge (all ont he same day). So it really depends on the judge and what his/her docket activity is like when you interviewed, (for example, for my current federal clerkship, I got the offer 3 weeks after I interviewed. The judge told me that he usually makes decisions within couple of days but they happened to have an extensive trial during that period which ended up delaying his interview schedule. So it all depends and no way to gauge it unless you know people who work in chambers)
