Requesting to work 12 instead of 10 weeks?
Has anyone ever asked this? Is this a bad thing to ask?

12 is almost more common than 10 in NYC, at least. (Lots of people do 11 or 12 weeks--most firms' summer programs are 12 weeks long if you start on the earliest start date, which isn't always possible depending on what school you go to.) Definitely can't hurt to ask.

I mean, did the firm tell you "our summer program is 10 weeks"? If so, what makes you think they will have the need to keep you on for an additional 2 weeks when all the other SAs go home?

Agreed. The firm is already spending a ton of money to wine and dine some law students for 2.5 months. They probably aren't going to throw another 6k at you. I guess it can't hurt to ask thoughBr3v wrote:I mean, did the firm tell you "our summer program is 10 weeks"? lol @ the idea that an SA expressing a willingness to work more would be no-offered for that reason.KD35 wrote:Well unless it causes a no offer.mr.hands wrote:Agreed. Don't put $6k in front of $160k. Just enjoy your two weeks off.

When I was a summer associate (pre-Recession so things may have changed), I asked to extend my summer until classes started again. I was at a branch office of a V5. They said yes.

it's a little weird and if op is a little weird by their nature they may get no offered for being weird. i mean theres nobody that wouldnt rather do this. its an extra 6k and 6 fancy lunches at the cost of doing a little research.lawschoolftw wrote:lol @ the idea that an SA expressing a willingness to work more would be no-offered for that reason.KD35 wrote:Well unless it causes a no offer.mr.hands wrote:Agreed.
