I am shadowing a partner from a Chicago law firm tomorrow. Today the firm emailed me saying that because of the freezing cold weather "feel free to wear jeans." I was planning on wearing a suit initially. What would you wear in this situation?

Are you hoping this will lead to employment with the firm? If so, then a suit. Feel free to wear some Under Armour pants or something underneath, but no way would I show up in jeans to a place where I'd want to be hired.

What law firm? I'd prolly show up in a suit still sweater over dress shirt is acceptable and no tie. I wouldn't wear jeans but I don't think it's a terrible idea

I am pretty sure I work at the firm you are talking about and I would suggest you wear a suit.

There are lots of Chicago firms having a jeans day tomorrow. It very much depends on the one having it. Something like Mayer brown wear the suit. Johnson and bell wouldn't matter if you skip the suit.
