Is this normal or do firms usually touch base every so often?

don't worry about it. if the firm was gonna revoke the offer i'm sure they'll let you know

Along those lines, is it weird to not have hear anything about a Christmas/Holiday party? I thought it was the norm that incoming Summer Associates were invited...?

Trust me, I really don't even care if I'm invited. In fact, I would rather not be invited because it would interfere with holiday travel plans...I was just simply asking if it's normal to have not hear anything about it, as I have peers that have been invited to their respective firm's parties.

I received a holiday gift from my firm. Other than a gift or an invite to a holiday party there isn't any reason for the firm to contact you except to quell your fear that they've secretly rescinded your offer! Don't worry if you don't hear anything.

Ethics rules prevent you from accepting the summer gift.

I wasn't invited after my summer and I don't think we're inviting this past summer's class this year. I went from basically August through the Spring hearing almost nothing except some emails about how to get reimbursed for MPRE and signing up for the bar.
