NYC: Which bar association?
Any opinions out there on which bar association to join if you are in NYC between the state bar, city bar, and the county bar? I only want to join one (and a couple non-NY ones) especially since I don't want a million marketing emails from three different local bar associations. I've generally heard not to do the state bar if you are in the city since it largely caters to the upstate crowd. Haven't really heard much between NYCLA and the city bar though. Thanks.

Federal Bar Council -- despite its name, its local only to the 2nd Cir. and not to be confused with the Federal Bar Ass'n which has hardly any presence in NYC area -- either that or join NYCBA.

City Bar and State Bar both seem reasonably active but I would personally prefer City Bar because of the urban focus. Never heard of the county bar.
Federal Bar Council is another; it seems to be full of former SDNY/EDNY/2d Cir. clerks. You can take that as a plus or minus.

I am a member of the Nassau County bar and soon NYC. Take a look at their websites and see if any of the committees and/or events interest you.

NYC Bar has a plethora of panels, events, and other ways for you to get involved. I highly recommend.
