So my grades are horrible. I had a strong personal connection send my resume and writing sample to a partner that he's friends with at a really good firm, and they told him that they'd reach out to interview. Do these things really work? will the interview just be a courtesy, or is there a shot?

Depends how much clout your partner has, and how the partnership makes hiring decisions. If hes a new partner, don't expect anything. Senior rainmaker or managing partner? Maybe you have a shot.

To be honest, it's probably a courtesy, and that's assuming the partner actually follows through.

no i go to a tier 1. i don't know if this is a "biglaw" firm by definition, it recently expanded to have 100 lawyers and they might start at 100K. partner has some pull. This interview is for a part time internship, not a job, but obviously id like to keep in touch and get a job later if possible.

Part time internship makes it a lot more likely in my opinion. But you could still be getting a courtesy interview.

But treat it as real, what else are you going to do?

Not defending the employment scores of these schools but where were you going with this distinction?

i have to clarify. this is not biglaw. this i guess is pretty good midlaw. about half associates and half partners, about 100 lawyers total. Many if not most partners are from T1s, of course there is a T14 sprinkle as well.

T11

Michigan puts more in Fed clerk/big law than Berkeley and B hires 3x more of its own grads
