Really comes down to where you work. If in SV, and at a firm that doesn't care about face time and whose office is located near a caltrain stop, car isn't needed.Tiago Splitter wrote:Seems like SF costs come pretty close when you consider the necessity of a car. Does anyone think you can actually live in SF but work in SV? Apparently like half the people at my firm do that but I'm not sure how.
Within San Francisco, just cheaper to uber everywhere rather than drive everywhere. A car, plus parking, plus gas, plus insurance. plus the parking tickets that inevitably accompany parking in the city, is economically inferior to just taking uber everywhere.
On the other hand, you could get a Nissan Leaf, which is basically free to lease after all the tax rebates you get and doesn't operate on gas. Maybe $300/month more in additional expenses.
