Really comes down to where you work. Within San Francisco, just cheaper to uber everywhere rather than drive everywhere. A car, plus parking, plus gas, plus insurance. plus the parking tickets that inevitably accompany parking in the city, is economically inferior to just taking uber everywhere.
On the other hand, you could get a Nissan Leaf, which is basically free to lease after all the tax rebates you get and doesn't operate on gas. Maybe $300/month more in additional expenses.
