25 y.o 3Ls turning 26/Health insurance for bar summer

How does health insurance work when your parents plan kicks you off right around the time school ends and work doesnt start till the fall? Do you have to buy obamacare for a couple months or can you just risk it without the penalty/"tax"?

I believe you can go three consecutive months without insurance without being subject to a penalty (look it up though), if you will be off longer than that then you can jump on Obamacare, remember you are likely eligible for merely catastrophic coverage when you're 26.

If you would have to pay more than 8% of your income for health insurance, you're exempt from any penalty. So assuming you have no or little income while studying for the bar, there wouldn't be any penalty for not being covered.

check with your firm? it's possible that your coverage begins during the summer. mine did.

I enrolled in Medicaid to cover the gap period. It was a breeze through the online system, and the coverage was $0. Never ended up using it.

Not 26 yet, but parents didn't have insurance to put me on...
Medicaid works if your state expanded medicaid, but if your state didn't and you'd qualify you're also exempt from the penalty... But that doesn't help if something actually happens
