Top Law Schools

I started as a first year a few weeks ago in a specific but large practice area at a GP firm. There are a few others placed in this department. My issue is that it's been over a month, and I'm still not staffed on a case. Most of the time I'm doing random assignments for random people. I've talked to older associates and they all tell me not to worry and that this is common. Was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this too and really how common it is. Im wondering also if this might be an indication the firm might not be doing so well. Most of the other first years are also in the same position as me. Should I just enjoy this while it lasts?

As a first year who started about a month ago who is up to his eyeballs in cases and assignments, and who hasn't had any significant time to spend with his SO, I'm jealous. As long as it doesn't last too long, I'd just enjoy it. If it goes on for months, though, I'd probably start to worry about whether the firm can afford to support a bunch of layabout first-years.

Yup. Also normal to worry about it, but once you're fully staffed up you'll wonder why you didn't just enjoy the downtime.
