How often will Big Law Firms typically ask for transcript/grade updates after you've accepted a Summer Associate position? Will they ask for updated transcripts after fall semester grades come out? What about after spring semester, while we're working as Summer Associates? And what about after that, during 3L year?

I'm gonna throw out a blanket statement, but probably depends based on the firm. Don't screw up 2L year, it should also be too early for you to have to worry about this.

I asked a guy at my firm (NYC V15) and he said after 2L and then after 3L. Obv ymmv.

my firm asked for a fresh copy by the end of the summer (so including all grades up to that summer). They wanted another after finishing 3L

I think mine asked before summer, 3L spring, and after starting as associates. I think they are just making sure we finish and don't mess up substantially.

Mine doesn't care about grades and only wants to know if you're in good standing and graduated. Though grades might matter if you move to a different firm.

Ah ok, thanks for the info! Sounds like the norm is for firms to ask for transcripts after each year, and grades aren't terribly important, but it varies. Good to know!

I think the opposite is true. Every firm, or nearly so, will ask for your transcript after graduation, but only a relatively small number are interested in your 2L grades.

Maybe the 100% offer firms not, but maybe others would want to see if are on track to graduate. I don't think you can say one way or the other.

Also some of the more grade strict firms would care, esp. if you are at a crappier (see mine) law school.
