I have previous work experience and am specializing in tax law. My school offers a one-credit externship at either the IRS or the SEC next semester. Has anyone else done these externships? Was the experience useful? As in... actually useful, as a learning experience without regard to its resume impact? The application process is kind of a pain, it requires interviews, and it's far more work than 1 credit is worth.
In other words, as a tax law student, am I missing out on something if I DON'T take a tax externship?

Re: Externship at IRS / SEC?
I am a 2L but I do have a good summer offer lined up. So that's why I'm only interested in it as a learning experience.. it's not worth it to me just as a resume item.
