Top Law Schools

Does anyone know much about this firm or the Virgin Islands office specifically? A close friend is considering an offer in this office, and it'd be great to collect some TLS insight if any is out there. I'm also curious about legal careers in the Virgin Islands generally. Specifically, I'm wondering...

1) Is the kind of work VI firms do too unique to translate to most mainland U.S. firms?
2) Does QPWB make it easy to transfer from the Virgin Islands office to a mainland office?
3) What are the firm's general prospects over the next few years?

I realize that my friend will be able to get some sense of these things from the QPWB partner he's been conversing with, but it's good to get outside perspectives as well. He doesn't use TLS or else I'd tell him to post here himself. Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't really answer questions about working in QPWB specifically, since I'm not working there. In terms of the VI, though, most stuff is transferable for going back to the States, if you want to. I mean, obviously, some smaller points of law vary, but it's not really any different than how things vary from state to state. The only stuff people might work on in the VI that is more unusual in other places is admiralty law.

Oh, and I guess Banks arguments are unique to the VI, too, though I doubt it'll come up That often.

Still curious about this...does anyone else have success stories about people moving to the Virgin Islands to work for a firm without being licensed there yet? Anyone know anything about QPWB in particular?

Make sure you check with the VI Bar's requirements. The bar here is super protective, and it is easy to run afoul of their "unlicensed practice of law" rules. You'll need to get barred here at the earliest opportunity. That said, if you move down here for one of the larger firms (which QPWB isn't Really one of, but it's close enough), they should be able to lead you through the hoops. QPWB has a few attorneys here who all went through that process.

I know the office in PR must have a starting salary of no more than 60-70k because that's the starting salary of the largest firms in San Juan. No reason to think the USVI will be any different.

Also, hours are not terrible but it's not 9-5, lets head to the beach.
