Top Law Schools

A couple of firms I interviewed with were really pushing their alumni network. At first, I thought they just meant that people help each other out or something, but no: they actually have an official internet/intranet site for associates and alumni to keep in touch/get advice from each other/help with exit options.

Is this a real thing? A recruiting department fantasy? Does anyone have any experience with that sort of official network?
