Top Law Schools

Currently deciding only between a top firm in DE (MNAT/richards layton/potter andrson) and a DC firm (not top firm, but name recognition in NYC at least). I really can't give much info since both class sizes are small. Ideally I want to end up in NYC or in-house in corporate. Both firms do corp work but of course the DE firm does more. Yet, the DC satellite office has name recognition in NYC (V50). What should I do? I'd LOVE to work in Dc but the de firm may have better future prospects if it carries over to NY but I'm having doubts. Note that I also have NY ties. Really hope this is enough info but I really cant out the firms specifically. Thanks!!!

We need to know more about the V50 satellite. Why can't you say the name? You are posting anonymously. The class sizes in DE are like 15 each and they gave out far more offers--not that small.

Go to DC. Once a Delaware lawyer, always a Delaware lawyer. The Delaware law firms do the most boring and mundane corporate work (heavily focused on advising on DE law arcana), and none of it is portable in the slightest. No one will care about your intimate knowledge of the quirks of the DGCL or the Limited Partnership Act or the Limited Liability Company Act when you try to move to New York.

I really feel like I cant out Dc. Like 5 person class and know theyre having trouble filling it. I guess discussing DE options may be enough.note that Dc firm is known for corp work in nyc.

This is an oversimplification. I have been tracking the career paths of those who leave DE firms. Many have lateralled to other market-paying DE firms, including satellite offices of V50s. Another has gone to a DC V15. I have not seen anyone going to NYC in this limited sample, however DE firms partner with NYC firms all the time, which one would expect would lead to strong professional relationships that will create future opportunities.
