Originally was set on Chicago but now I'm extremely uncertain and feeling the siren song of NYC.

1) Am I just being a prestige whore in thinking that NYC will be the better career move here?

2) More substantively, can anyone comment on the nature of the litigation work at Skadden and Latham chicago?

My impression has been that Skadden especially churna A LOT of shareholders suits and maybe not much else. Most associates I've met at events have seemed do shareholder securities work almost exclusively. Both Latham and Skadden seem to have decent investigations/FCPA practices but I'm not sure how busy these actually are.

3) One of my thoughts has been that I will have a much broader range of work at some of the NY firms than I will at these options in Chicago. Does that sound off base?

Any info even tangentially related to these questions would be very much appreciated.

Can't really compare fairly with Chicago, but I would take Paul Weiss for Lit between those three options in NYC.

Also, as I'm sure you know both Latham and Skadden are satellites in Chicago, for whatever that's worth.

PW is probably the right choice for "best" litigation work, but I don't know what that means. I'd rather be in these NY offices than those Chicago offices -- K&E/Sidley Chicago would be better contenders here. Could probably choose the NYC firms based on fit if you needed to.

my understanding is that lit at latham chicago is very white collar heavy.

Skadden because NYC doesn't have a sluggers

OP here: This isn't derailing at all. Insights here will also help me understand the long term career impact of staying in Chicago vs. going to NY. Obviously Jenner is better at lit than Skadden/Latham but I'm still interested in people's thoughts.

If you want a broad range of work PW makes more sense than the other NYC firms. STB's lit practice in particular seems focused largely on supporting its corporate work and doing other securities/financial-related lit. Can't speak to the Chicago options.

Worked at PW, although in corporate. Everyone I met just seemed to be doing Citi litigation. Granted, there were a couple lucky associates who got to work for Edie Windsor, but bank litigation seemed to be the bread and butter.
