I've heard PH is now making junior associates share offices in LA and DC. This is pretty TTT.

Anyone gonna rethink their offer?

You'd think a firm that has its own building would have enough offices for its first and second years.

PH is so cheap that they still haven't updated the logo on their main HQ building despite changing it years ago. Usually when any organization changes a logo, HQ is the very first place you physically see updated signage. That should show you how cheap Paul Hastings is. IMO it's penny-wise, pound-foolish because talented law students will not want to work there when they can get their own office at a less-cheap firm for the same pay.

It's really hard to fathom how cheap and insulting this is. In NYC firms can get away with this because it's NY and real estate is precious. But LA/DC?

This is a clear message to junior PH associates that they are little more than glorified turds. I'd be worried that any firm going down this route won't stop here, and will cut back on bonuses and benefits down the road. And let's hope this is simply cheap management and not a sign of deeper financial problems...

I recall Paul Hastings no offering a bunch of people. Are they going under?

It's probably not that bad since we don't see partners jumping ship yet. But this is definitely a sign that they may have overextended themselves financially.

If I had a choice I'd steer clear. Even if the firm isn't about to Latham a bunch of people, sharing an office for two years SUCKS.

This is hilarious. Though I'd bet a nickel that anon above is you or someone else in on the joke.

I'm confused. In NY the norm is to share offices, no? Is that not the norm elsewhere?

Nope.

In SoCal firms give 1st-years their own window office, some with an ocean view.

This can't be true. I just interviewed with a first year a week ago. He had his own office.

My friend won't stop bitching about it. She said she doesn't have to move until Oct. when he new class starts. To the anon asking about it, call up someone you interviewed with to confirm. Don't get bait and switched.

First year as in started in sept 2013 or 2014? I'd be surprised if they had somebody who had started that very week doing cbs.

I'm still a first year but all of our office moves were done ahead of OCI season, so that might've been it.

I'm in LA and they made an announcement but I don't think anyone has been moved yet. The junior I work with in DC said the move was happening before oct 6. Not sure if that goes for LA as well.

Frankly it's embarrassing. Nobody else in LA does this.

This. I've heard it's rare for DC offices as well.

Firms believe (probably rightly) that first and second years don't have great lateral options. But this practice will drive away recruits who have multiple offers, and it will demoralize current junior associates. At my firm only summer associates, k attorneys and staff share offices.

Yeah, if they are not combining offices until after callbacks are over, this year's recruits could be in for an unpleasant surprise.

This is part of their effort to make all their offices feel like New York.

Also a sign they're going under.

In all seriousness, if this office sharing story is true, I suggest Bose in-ear noise canceling headphones. They work SO well-- they will completely drown out your office mate's late night tears

They aren't going under. Probably just cost cutting measures. You people should be happy to have any job ITE.
