international options. you can't bank on getting a visa with a lottery system. you worked so hard to get hear don't jeopardize your career on something that is out of your control.

Have you discussed your visa situation with the three firms? How receptive was each one to sponsoring an H1-B or sending you to a foreign office if the H1-B lottery didn't work out?

OP here. I'm not sure whether I should bring up this issue at this stage (well before 2L summer w/ possibility that I might be no-offered). All three firms have 100% offer rates I believe, but I will feel comfortable broaching the topic only after I get a return offer. For now I'm trying to gather anecdotal information.

I've heard that you should wait until the end of your 2L summer when you have an offer in hand. You don't need the visa to start work immediately.

Ask all 3 firms.
Don't make it sound like you feel entitled to an offer, but say that you worry about your future in the US and you were wondering if "everything going well in the summer and in the event I get an offer, if you would be willing to sponsor my H1B."
I had this talk and knowing my firm was willing to sponsor my visa was a huge deciding factor for me.

I would tell them now. In the months leading up to my 2L SA I was emailed a bunch of forms and crap to fill out. One of them outright asked, "If hired, would visa sponsor be required?" Your firm may vary, but if not, they will know that you need visa sponsorship before the summer even starts.
