Skadden v. Hogan (DC)

Trying to decide between Skadden and Hogan- both D.C. and for corporate/m&a. Really liked folks at both during CB but having a hard time figuring out which one to pick. Any compelling reasons for one over the other?

Also, are the DC offices of one considered more nationally focused than the other? This might be an important factor in the choice.

Hogan's office is huge in DC and so its Skadden. I really like the green arches in Skadden's office and the fact that it is connected to a starbucks. However, Hogan's office has that cool waterfall in the lobby.

Anecdotally, I have heard that there is an advantage to be in the firms HQ. So Hogan probably would have that kind of advantage over Skadden DC. But Skadden is Skadden.

FWIW, the sense I got at my callback is that Hogan is on the better end of work life balance. Still big law, of course, but worth considering. I don't think you could go wrong with either, and both will leave you with good exit ops (although Hogan may be better if you think you may want to do regulatory at all).

OP here. Are there significant differences in how each firm's D.C. corporate practices (not taking into account Skadden NY's corporate strength) and perceived outside of the D.C. market? Either by other attorneys or in the general corporate community?

Outside of DC: DC firms have corporate groups?!?

Anyone have insight into work life balance at Skadden (non NYC offices)?

I feel like this may be the view in NYC but not elsewhere nationally.
