patent law - biglaw or regional boutique

Will exit options in patent law be significantly better out of a large GP firm than out of a regional boutique? I'm looking at DC firms and if I did eventually go in house, it would likely be in the electrical, mechanical or medical fields. In particular, the latter primarily seems concentrated in CA.
