Milbank LA (Career, exit options, etc)

Lots of topics about Milbank NY, not too many about Milbank LA.

I'm pretty certain I'm going to accept my offer at Milbank LA. Just have a few questions:

1) Would I be retarded for joining their litigation group? I'm open, but the lit partner I had a CB interview with is trying to sway me hard.

2) What are the exit options? I'd imagine it's mostly in-house banking, but I'm honestly not sure what people think of Milbank LA associates.

1) I wouldn't go as far as saying it's "retarded," but obviously project finance/corporate is their bread and butter. I would imagine litigation associates have a tougher time racking up billables, although it's nice that Milbank has no formal billables requirement. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting several of the litigation senior associates, and they seemed to be happy/busy.

2) Considering Milbank has one of the bigger LA offices for NY-based firms, I think the name carries a good amount of prestige and exit options are plentiful. Although exit options are important, it's worth noting that at my CB, I met with 3 8th year associates, all of whom boasted about the fact that 8 of the 9 people from their class are still at Milbank because they are genuinely happy with the firm. (This could be amplified by the laid back nature of the LA office).

It certainly doesn't hurt that Milbank's financials are rock solid ($2.5 million PPP) and they are considered among the "Super Rich" Biglaw firms. http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2014/04/28/big ... ead-water/ and http://www.americanlawyer.com/id=120265 ... 0730042601. At least for me, job security is a major consideration, and Milbank is having a gangbusters year.

Personally, I loved the office and people, and Milbank seems like a solid option.

FWIW I heard the PF group gets "anally raped" with work.
