Can anyone offer any advice as to culture, people, quality of life at the following:

Skadden
Cleary
Weil
Debevoise

All NY. Any and all advice welcome. Disregard practice area strengths.

Thanks!

This has been thoroughly discussed. You can say some things generally about the culture of each firm but the truth is that you will end up working with a small group at the firm and they might be the opposite of what your like.

OP here, thanks. I am even looking for anecdotal advice and I understand that caveats and disclaimers apply. I just think more info is better than less.

I hadn't seen a thread discussing these firms specifically in relation to each other, but sorry if this thread is a dupe.

this is especially true at huge places like these. It's a little easier to get a culture comparison between Chadbourne and Schulte than between Cleary and Skadden.

For a hipshot opinion: Skadden is probably a little fratty, Debevoise is very tame, Weil is work hard, play hard, Cleary is pretty sociable, but I've heard mixed rumors regarding kind of silly face-time requirements. My legal writing prof brought in a Cleary friend who was constantly getting emails for showing up 15 minutes after "start of business," FWIW.

Cleary associate here. I have never heard of that and there is basically no facetime requirement as long as you're responsive and get your stuff done. I regularly show up between 10 and 10 30 am (as do many) and have never had anyone say anything.

Mind saying which office? NYC? I'm looking at a couple Cleary offices (not OP) and am curious about this.

NY. Obviously if you need to be in early you need to be there. Otherwise the general mentality is as long as you get your work done and are responsive, people don't care where you are (and often don't know, since you don't sit in practice groups...the people I work for generally have no idea if I am in the office or not). You also get one day to work remotely a month as a first year, two days a month after that.

Yeah cleary has no FaceTime req but you need to be responsive. Most people don't get in until at least 10.

What is this based on? Arent you a 3L? A round of OCI, a prof's friend, and hearing about your friend's experiences isn't enough for you to base hipshot opinions for all the firms you listed. It's passable for you to discuss the firm you worked at though.

I am. I meant to indicate that my opinion wasn't based on a lot, particularly that the Cleary data was entirely based on rumors. No need to get upset by it.

Not sure. I was trying to point out that firms with 1000 lawyers are harder to pin down than ones with 300.
