How does Manatt LA stack up for corporate work? Also, if anybody has insight into their associate pay structure, I would appreciate it!

There's another thread on this
Below market first year, then up to market second year
or something like that

Manatt's associate pay structure =
4 Tiers.
1st Tier
-(a)
-(b)
2nd Tier
-(a)
-(b)
3rd Tier
-(a)
-(b)
4th Tier
-(a)
-(b)
Basically, starting first year salary is below market. No one is quite sure exactly what it is at this point. It used to be $140-145K but have heard rumors that it has dropped a little under that as well. If they came out with this information publicly, please feel free to correct me.
Their salary structure works by having "4 tiers" and little mini subsets within those tiers. In order to jump from Tier 1 to Tier 2, you need to be approved by the partner that will assess your candidacy to move up based on your work product and evaluations. You move from (a) to (b) based on year, but theoretically can stay in Tier 1 (b) salary rate as a 3rd or 4th or even 5th year associate, if you haven't been approved by the partner.

Interesting, it would be nice to actually know. Maybe I will just call and ask.

125K first year confirmed. After that there are "tiers" as poster above described.

Does anyone know how is work-life balance for the LA office, since they pay slightly below market?
Also, their entertainment practice seems to be well regarded, but how does it stack up against Latham, Loeb & Loeb, Akin Gump, etc.?

I actually have a friend that goes to a local LA school who was between this firm and another firm. She said both paid market? Also, Manatt has a good entertainment program from what I heard.

Manatt does have a very well-respected entertainment practice, though as a junior associate I am unsure of how much of that work you will see. They do top notch work, but there isn't the same quantity of it as there is at larger LA entertainment firms such as Latham, GDC, OMM, etc.
They do pay slightly below market. Their new associate starting salary is $150,000, however, you will likely work a few less hours at Manatt than other big firms in LA. On top of that, they have something called an "investment account," which lets you count non-billable hours as billables. From my understanding it is a big help for junior associates looking to make hours.
