I've had a few CBs in which the recruiters gave me a 1 week time-line for hearing back. I'm approaching two weeks with these firms.

Is it appropriate at this time to send a follow-up email stating my interest in the firm? If so, what am I supposed to say exactly?

Don't, for fear of being desperate. Nothing you can do will change their mind in a positive way at this point.

Original OP - I guess that makes sense. I'm just applying at a lot of offices with 2-5 associate classes so the post-CB timeline is longer than I expected, nerve-racking stuff.

Would also like to know this. The firm I'm waiting to hear from is my favorite firm and I would accept on the spot. Would it be appropriate to ask when I can expect to hear and reiterate my strong interest?

Just hang in here. I've been told the same thing and gotten offers 2-3 weeks after. No need to look desperate.

Fair enough. How often is there movement from the hold list? I'm almost positive I'm on such a list at 2 different firms.

I just hate hearing about other offers going out

This forum is full of NY firms, which operate in a largely unique way. They may have the bulk of the hiring spots, but theres many other firms that have their own hiring quirks.

If you've already massmailed, get off this website till columbus day.

If you have an offer with a timeline, I'd say do it. I did and got an offer 2 hours later. Also did it with a screener I hadn't heard from (NYC firm) and got the CB in my response email.

My experience as well.

It's one thing if there is no timeline and you ask, but if the firm tells you one week and you don't hear within that timeframe, I don't think it's weird at all to inquire gently about the status of your candidacy. One firm told me X; contacted them a couple days after that date elapsed and got an offer shortly thereafter.

Unfortunately in the response to my thank you note, the recruiter said they'd be in touch "just as soon as they can," so there was no definitive timeframe.

And even more unfortunately, I'm on hold at multiple firms and don't have an offer in hand. I'm near the top of my class at a lower T2, so I'm guessing they are making offers to people at better schools first and then will get to me later (if at all).
