What's the hiring timeline for Ibanking summer? I know normally for MBA's, hiring at the occurs around January.
Is that the same for JD students? How do you manage to go for an IB summer position if you're also interviewing with firms who require you to accept an offer by Dec. 1 at the latest?

There is virtually no chance of getting an ibanking job as a JD, so this is a trick question like, "how would a dog play the piano, since it has no fingers"

Credit Suisse was recruiting at GW this fall. Just apply when an MBA would, hustle your network, and see what happens?

1) Around the first week of May, go to the registrar's office.
2) Inform the registrar that you are dropping out.
3) Take the GMAT.
4) Apply to MBA programs.
5) Once you get in, go to one that investment banks prefer to recruit from.
6) You get the picture.

Credit suisse is recruiting at a number of schools this year. The recruiter I've spoken with seems a little out of it tbh. Would be interested in hearing from people what the timeline is like.

I'd rather not out the bank, but I know of at least one bulge bracket offer to a classmate of mine. They worked there during 1L summer and are going back next year.

Is anyone going to contribute anything useful to this thread?

Investment banks have put up job postings specifically targeting JD students at a number of law schools. Obviously nobody went to law school to go into banking but some of us are interested in the timelines for these specific positions.

If you can't explain to a bunch of anonymous people on the Internet why you went to law school if you want to be an ibanker, how will you explain it in an interview.

I'm pretty sure the banking timetable is later than OCI (like early 2015) in order to match the MBA schedule. Are you not doing a firm?

OP here

For future prospective applicants..
The application process for me was: applying during/a little after OCI. Then, you get a preliminary interview so they get to know you better. Otherwise, a "real" interview, followed by a superday (or however the firm does it). The process is quick.

I think people here over exaggerate how difficult it is to get a banking job. You shouldn't BANK on it (pun intended) but it's not impossible either. That being said, it depends on your school. If you go to a school that the bank recruits from (like mine), your career services center will help you out. Otherwise, yes, it's very difficult.
