Family friend is MP of V5 firm - Call in 2 weeks

Found out a few weeks ago a very close family friend of my parents and G-Parents is the former global MP for V5 firm, and now a senior partner in the firm. My parents recently spoke to him and mentioned i was attending LS, he wants to speak with me and we have a call set up in the coming week. The firm didn't come to OCI, but i sent in my app and as of last week is still pending as per the Recruitment chair when I emailed to update my resume.

I'd really like to work for the firm - they have a great corporate practice and the location is where i'd like to be in a major market. How do I not beg him to give me an interview while still hinting i'd really like to interview with them. Don't want to sound desperate.

I already have a v30 offer and secondary market offer so I'm not jobless. This would be that unicorn job if I could land it.

It kind of sounds like the machine is in motion for you already. The guy will invariably ask you where you've applied or where you are in the recruitment cycle, casually drop the fact that you've applied to his firm. Not much more you can or should do than that.

Have a pleasant conversation and be cool.

I think you can at least express that you're excited to have applied to his firm and that you're hoping you get a callback, etc. There's obviously a way to do this that would be obnoxious and a way that would be artful, but if you do it right I think it's better to err on the side of showing enthusiasm than playing it cool. Good luck!

if several generations of your family are linked in with managing partners of the most elite firms in the country, sounds like you've got it made in the shade regardless of where you work or what degree you receive for that matter

regardless, he should be able to get you at least an interview.
