Say by the time of your next callback you're 3 weeks into an offer you received. Does proper etiquette dictate that you tell someone at the firm where you're going to the cb? Or do you say nothing and hope they get back to you before you have to let the offering firm know your decision?

Obviously don't want to come off presumptuous or cocky. But just to be fair to yourself as well as the firms

Option A: Try to move up the callback date -- let the firm know you'll have an expiring offer and see if anything sooner is available.
Option B: After the callback, before you leave, stop by recruiting and let them know/remind them if you already told them in Option A and they couldn't move you up. Some interviewers may also ask -- if so, feel free to let them know as well, but don't bring it up yourself during an interview.

Also, firms that are known for taking longer with decisions will/should ask you about decisions. The same or next day offer firms don't really have cause to worry because you'd find out in time if it were relevant anyway.

related: are firms generally receptive to extensions? Or is this incredibly frowned upon? This early offer (which I really like) is turning out to be a huge PITA

1. Agree you should tell the recruiting staff at the later cb firm about the offer deadline - they will want to know.

2. It's okay to ask for an extension (raise it with the recruiting staff), but don't count on getting one. Some firms give them routinely, others not so much.

3. Early offers and the 28-day NALP rule can create real problems. Some firms that routinely give early offers and don't give extensions use this dynamic to put pressure on students. If you have a choice, you may want to consider whether a firm that does this is really a firm where you want to work.

While I agree that it's a weird move, you really should be careful declining a good offer for the mere potential of another.

Not to take over your thread OP, but having the same issue myself. Coming from a T2 with an offer in DC that expires Monday, already asked for an extension with no luck. I have another 4 callbacks and just had one Thursday (all Chi); I would prefer Chi but don't necessarily want to lose the sure thing.

The last person you meet with will normally be a recruiter or hiring partner. They normally ask what your timeframe is. Saying the ball is in your court is normally a turnoff. Saying I have to respond to another firm in xxx days, if this is true, is generally a good thing both in terms of making you a more attractive candidate, and in making sure you don't lose a current offer. It's weird to be a candidate that should have offers by September, but does not have any. Sometimes this is bad luck, but sometimes it's something about you. It's only human nature to then want to be sure it's not something about the candidate.

Wait - did you tell the Chicago Thurs firm yet? If not, I would tell them Monday morning. If not, it's all about confidence. Do you think you'll get at least 1 of the 3 in Chicago. Mathematically, you will. Also, if you got one already you're likelier to be the type of person who will get another. On the other hand, losing them all is catastrophic. You would be gambling.
