As a current Simpson associate, mind elaborating why you feel this way? I don't think we're particularly more "white shoe" than other comparable firms, but I suppose it depends on your personality, too.

Have an offer at Simpson that I'm probably not taking. However, I didn't feel like it was "white shoe" or whatever that means.

Still mulling an offer. Didn't go in with Simpson near the top of my list, but I loved them when I went in for the CB. Definitely the firm that made the biggest impression on my CB.

What was your experience like? Mine was a bit of the opposite - on paper I thought STB was perfect for me; but during my CB I felt it was a bit "flat".

I would suggest taking second looks or talking to some recent summers/current associates - see what you learn in the post-offer position, ask some questions you didn't/couldn't pre-offer. A CB barely more than a first impression. YMMV but I wouldn't make an acceptance decision based on a CB, at least between closely competitive offers.

Can anons in this thread provide some more detailed reasons why they do not plan to accept STB offer? i.e., consider another offer to be better, interested in litigation and have offer from litigation powerhouse, etc. Or are people considering not accepting based mainly on "fit" with CB interviewers? I'm not judging if that is the case - I completely understand. It would just be helpful for others in this situation if you say some more about your thought process.

Ended up accepting my offer at Simpson. Had some at peer firms but Simpson just seemed like a much better fit for me and I ended up liking the people a whole lot more.

Interested in litigation and I have an offer from a "litigation powerhouse." However, I think Simpson's culture fits more with my personality. The other firm is free market and has crazy hour expectations. I'm really not wanting to stress about finding work so that I can bill crazy hours. Is Simpson's lit practice really subpar? Will there still be good exit opportunities?

I don't think it's crazy to choose Simpson over somewhere typically considered more of a litigation firm like Kirkland or Paul Weiss based on personality. One particularly salient point on litigation is that movement between firms is relatively fluid, and they mostly all do the same sorts of things. Thus, once you're at the top of the practice, it's all about what you make of your experience and who you impress; no firm down the road will hire Kirkland litigation associates but not Simpson litigation associates. If you want to do patent litigation, Simpson is obviously not the firm for you, but otherwise I think it is a perfectly respectable choice over firms better known for litigation if you prefer the culture. There is a common cultural thread among all of the litigation-heavy firms, and Simpson (as well as a few others) has a dramatically different culture.

(The caveat to this is that some of the elite litigation boutiques are a totally different world, and choosing Simpson over one of them may cut off your ability to move into that world in the future. But I'm assuming the firm in question is a Kirkland and not a Susman.)

I love the people and the firm - it was a close competition with the firm I will be accepting. The 'fit' wasn't quite right - it seemed a little more.... quiet, polite, and buttoned up (Not Covington level, mind you). I'd probably be super happy at STB - I just think I'm going to be happier at a different firm (OK OK... 'happy' is relative term when talking about Biglaw).

Also when I talk to people who know me, STB, and the other firm, the overwhelming response is that I would best fit at the other firm. So there's that.
