Recruiter Responding to Thank You - Does it Mean Anything?

Does the fact that a recruiter positively responds to your thank you email post-CB mean anything? I realize I'm basically reading tea leaves, but I'm looking for some peace of mind.

for v10 it's a good sign. Anything below is unclear.

It probably means you didn't offend them or do anything unspeakably stupid. Does not mean a definite offer.

No. Recruiters are more likely to be genuinely nice, prosocial, and have the time to respond. Aside from business, the reason why people may not respond is because they're worried you'll then expect an outcome they can't guarantee. Generally speaking, even though the smiles are feigned, the type of person who is a recruiter is the type of person who would smile at you on the subway without then asking you for money or your phone number.

OP here. It's a V20 - In the email it says they will be in touch as soon as they can (after other positive content).

Depends on how many candidates the firm interviews.

Judging by your response, are you sure you're in any vault firm's grade range?

That makes sense; however another attorney (senior associate) that I interviewed with responded and said something along the lines of "I think you would fit in well here. I wish you the best of luck in receiving an offer from [FIRM]."

I'm essentially dying to work here, in case you can't tell.

That's the best kind of review you could get. Sounds like she or he is merely acknowledging that it is not up to them.

For what it's worth, had pre-OCI callback with a firm. Recruiter was super adamant about me hanging out with them in their hospitality suite. Ding. Recruiers are seriously just really, really nice people.

I know OP is referring to CB, but I had a response to a thank you post-screener at a V10 (only one interviewer). Still got ding'd.

I try to send a short response to thank you emails, even though I generally have no idea whether the person I'm responding to is going to get an offer. I figure (1) it's polite and (2) if the person does get an offer, it might make him/her more favorably disposed to our firm. But the fact that I responded means nothing in terms of the likelihood that the person is getting an offer.

Quite frankly, it most likely says more about them than how you did. I highly doubt there is a firm-wide mandate "only talk to or be nice to those who did well", it's more likely that people who are hired to be recruiters are friendly folks who respond to emails.

That said, it is better than the opposite which would not be a good sign.

When does a recruiter say anything that's not positive content besides a sentence actually rejecting you (which usually includes a phrase or clause of additional positive content)?

It's meaningless. Focus on the task at hand.

Not OP here: On a semi-related note, I had an experience where after a callback, I stopped by the office of the senior associate who conducted my screener (s/he did the screener alongside the office's hiring partner, so I clearly impressed the hiring partner to get a callback).

As I was leaving, the senior associate said something to the effect of "I hope you decide to come back!"

Should I take this with a grain of salt, or might s/he have a pretty good idea of where I stand considering s/he initially interviewed me with the hiring partner?

If they only conducted the screener, they probs have no idea how your CB went. So I don't see how you can read anything into it.

I don't see how the recruiter could mean much since they don't really make any decisions, they just facilitate them.

I'm curious what people think about a very positive response from the hiring partner or another senior partner you interviewed with post-CB though. It seems like it would make more sense for the hiring partner to just ignore your post-CB thank you email than respond to it if they truly weren't interested, and they don't have the same MO to be "nice." Idk, all of this is probably reading too much into what's truly a pretty random process (after the grades/school cut obviously) at the end of the day.

Different Anon here.

Had a callback in which I met with the Executive Partner of the office. After I sent a thank you, he responded with

"Nice meeting you too. Would love to see you join (our firm). You’d certainly like it here."

Is it safe to say the offer call is coming soon?

I don't think it's a bad thing but lol at you being a safe bet.
