OCI strike out in LA, 3.75 UCLA/USC

Odds are very high that I just struck out at OCI. 3.75 from UCLA/USC. Applied almost exclusively to LA firms. I had 15 screeners and 3 call backs. I want to practice corporate law, studied business in undergrad, and have some related work experience during undergrad.
What should I do now?
The only firms I have mass mailed are the other 20 firms I bid at OCI but did not receive a screener from.

1) Mass mail NY now
2) Mass mail every other major market you're willing to work in 5 minutes from now.
3) Why didn't you do this in july?

if you are not from SoCal, mass mail every law firm in your home region.

How many dings have you received? You may be on "hold" for some firms. It's still early. Be proactive and apply broadly in the mean time. How did you feel during the interviews? Were they conversational or did they seem forced/awkward?

3 of 15 is still a 20% conversion rate. That's decent, maybe a tad below average but not so low that I'd think you have serious issues with interviewing. Your problem is that 15 screeners is not a lot. You really need to mass mail every major market asap.

Orig anon here. 10 dings, so only 2 in limbo.
I have no ties to NY besides the fact that I want to practice corporate law. Is this enough?

Probably. Cover letters in the mass mail will have the same few sentences about wanting to work in new york because "it is a robust legal market and i have friends there blah blah blah." A really good GPA at a top 20 school will be enough to get it looked at.

OP -- FWIW, a few of my friends and I were in the same boat at UCLA/USC. In addition to what everybody else said, it might not be a bad idea to mass mail LA law firms that you did not interview with -- we were able to secure CBs this way. But, I know a few people with similar GPAs and in law review that had no luck.

I have a similar GPA at a peerish school, have been to NYC like twice in my life, and got a V20 NYC offer, despite likely striking out at OCI/not getting screeners in the market my school is in.
It is definitely doable. Gl OP.
ETA: Secondary journal, so no law review or related/high level WE. Shitty major at a shitty UG.

New York firms kind of assume that everyone wants to be there. It's really not that difficult to sell wanting to be in NYC to an NYC big law attorney.

Some response from NY firms inviting me for a screener if/when I'm in NY. Is this the norm? Or if someone is really interested will they fly a candidate out?

Might want to do it with just one and hold the return flight (assuming it'll be a full interview, not just a screener). E-mail a bunch of NYC firms and tell them you'll be in the area.

I went 8/18 on screeners, and 1/8 on callbacks last year. There's no consensus on you being a good interviewer or bad interviewer based off of numbers. Anomalies do happen. Even if you were bad, you're just going to be worse if you're nervous about it. Get an offer.
