Will any of these firms split with another firm?

Looking at 7 week/7 week splits next summer, if possible.

I'm investigating whether the following NY offices would offer split summers with another firm (top firm in non-NY market which does allow this kind of summer): some *say* they allow splits, but I never know if this means just between offices or actually between firms.

Davis Polk
Cleary Gottlieb
Sullivan & Cromwell
Cravath (I'm assuming no since they have such a ritualized program)
WilmerHale

Please, if you're just going to be hostile, don't respond. (FWIW I have offers at some of these and CB's at the rest, but that's not relevant: I'm not assuming anything I don't have yet). I just want to know about anyone's relevant experiences before I express interest in doing a split with any particular firm.

Thanks!

DPW allows splits so long as they are outside of New York. I wouldn't exactly discuss it before you have an offer.

Original anon. This is great news.

How would you suggest I raise this prospect (post-offer)? Do you have information on any of the other firms listed? I read that for Cravath they strongly prefer at least 10 weeks with their office prior to the split (which wouldn't leave enough weeks to complete the other SA in this case). Are exceptions ever made?

Thanks again.

I think it's fairly unlikely you'll split with a major firm in another major market. Some of those other markets may be open to splits, but they all seem to require that you spend the first half with that firm. Most splits I've seen have been either a) exceptions made because the student did a 1L SA with the second-half firm, or b) splits with a top firm and a smaller market firm that typically only have half-summer-long SA positions to begin with (particularly common in southern markets and Texas).

A first year at my firm split her summer with Cravath. Not sure how she did it, but definitely possible (or was at least Summer 2012).
