"I'll see you soon"

At the end of a screener in New York, after the formalities and goodbyes and great talking to you's and whatnot, interviewer said "I'll see you soon."
Does that mean I'm getting a callback? Am I reading too much into this?

Probably yes. I had an interviewer say, "we'd love to have you in to come meet some people at the firm, how long are you in town?" ... DING

Honestly...probably an irrelevant auto response. Sort of like when someone says "hey what's up" and the other person says "pretty good, u?" Sometimes ppl just go on autopilot during hellos goodbyes and other formalities.

Had a screener with a partner. She asked if I was going to still be in town that weekend because she'd love for me to grab a drink with the hiring partner, I said sure and that sounded great. No word all weekend or the next week about the drink or a CB in general.
I ended up emailing her and basically asking what was up. She cc'd the hiring partner replying that they would get back to me and they reached out to me and set up a CB, but only if I was "really interested" in the firm. I was, so I took it. Ended up being my first offer. Didn't accept, though. Whole thing was bizarre.

Despite the title of the email, it actually ended up just being an email about how one of their famous lawyers had been ranked highly in a magazine recently... it had absolutely nothing to do with the summer program. 1 week later, I got a ding via email.
I've come to learn not to read anything into law firm recruiting because I think people enjoy getting your hopes up only to crush them.
Fucking lol at calling your wife into the room when you don't even know what the email will say.

Just because you're a FA doesn't mean you have to hate on others being adorable

Next time you try for a zinger, you might want to fact check.

I mean, if someone was going to do that, are you honestly surprised it was me?
But yeah, it was probably a silly thing to do. However, it was right around the time that the firm told me they would get back to me (it was a Thursday evening and they had said that they'd release results by the end of that week, which ended up being inaccurate). Also, the title of their email was "[Firm Name] Summer Associate Program!" with an exclamation point. Based on the circumstances, I just assumed it would be an offer/ding.
Anyway, the point was that throughout the OCI process, it is so easy to try to infer things from what firms say/do that it is just better to assume you're dinged until you actually get an offer.
Yeah that exclamation point is kind of weird and overzealous of them.

As a screener (1st year assisting partner) the phycology regarding the parting good-bye is fascinating. I tend to say “thank you and blah blah” while the partner often says “I’m sure you’ll be a fine lawyer and someone in this market will pick you up.” At first I thought that was a weird ta-ta but her phycology is that when/if the candidate receives a callback it will be an unexpected surprise (to say the least).
I had a candidate who I thought was a definite callback until he mentioned “split summer.” Gone. Some firms do not want to spend $3K a week just to get into a pissing contest….just food for thought.
